Rockella
residency
During the residency
I worked with human emotions, specially on heartbreak, heart hurt,
heart dead.
Mixing poetry and abstract paintings.
Rockella Studio Program, Brooklyn, ny / August-September 2023
I titled this series: "You Told Me That Love Doesn’t Hurt;" it combines large-scale canvases with text, using each painting’s title to reference specific poems or states. It was a dialogue, an exorcism, that dramatized these feelings and created a narrative in between vulnerability and self-awareness.
During the residency, I produced hundreds of pages of typewritten poems, diary notes, and thoughts. I incorporated these writings into performances, painting phrases on my body and public spaces.
I recorded myself reading poetry and excerpts from my diary, creating video and audio works to explore different ways of delivering poetry. I keep developing this work, started during the residency, in my present.
